Douglas J. Leonard, Ph.D.
For twenty-five years Douglas Leonard has consulted in the communication arts with local and national clients. He serves as the expert of communications and marketing for the Abbey Group. “What I enjoy as an Abbey Group director,” says Doug, “is using my talents to advance programs that help and enrich real people. It’s not just our tagline – the Abbey Group staff really does have a ‘passion for the mission’ of each client.”
Doug has a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He achieved tenure as professor of English at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. He has several national writing awards to his credit.
Among the nonprofit clients Doug has served are St. Mary’s Hospital (Madison), St. Clare Hospital (Wausau), Aurora Health Care (Milwaukee), All Saints Hospital (Racine), Milwaukee Area Technical College, Madison Area Technical College, Northcentral Technical College, Beloit Public Library, and St. Francis Mission.
For many years Doug has offered day-long seminars for managers and executives in communication techniques, oral and written. For-profit clients include S.C. Johnson Corporation, Briggs & Stratton, American Standard, Metavante, and Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation.
As a writer and editor, Doug has produced countless case statements, marketing newsletters, brochures, and letter campaigns for diverse products, services, and nonprofit causes.
Among his specific accomplishments, Doug has:
- Presided over a goal-surpassing $1.3 million capital campaign for Bell Tower Residence, an assisted living facility, Merrill, Wisconsin
- Secured $1.2 million angel funding for a start-up company producing educational multimedia
- Authored a grant proposal obtaining $170,000 for faculty development from the Joyce Foundation on behalf of Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota
